Summer Fun Tournament Honored Founders

Once again, Tom Stanar ably organized and managed the annual Summer Fun Tournament and Pot Luck Breakfast with help from his wife Linda, Jerry Veazey, an injured Richard Bloom, and Barb and Marnie Chisholm.  Artist Nancy Bowerman topped her previous custom prize creations.  Richard Sullivan and Wendy Tilden snagged our first-ever tournament sponsor, Dillon’s Einstein Bros Bagels.  And Rick Bell and Mike and Karen Miller provided logistical help. Upper men’s: Dennis, Mike, Jim and Paul While Thursday’s mixed doubles competition was rained out, 56 members competed in men’s and women’s doubles on Wednesday.  The winners were: Men’s upper division:  Paul Jones (more…)

Photos from Darby Piens’s SCPA Celebration of Life

Thanks to Karen and Mike Miller, Wendy Markley and Wes Knight for organizing a pot-luck picnic tribute to longtime club member Darby Piens, who died June 28 at age 79.  About 100 people — club members, spouses, and family/friends of Darby — shared late afternoon sunshine, wonderful dishes and Darby stories. The highlight was meeting Darby’s daughter, Michelle Guthmiller, who along with her husband, Jeff, came over from Lake City, CO near Gunnison.  Michelle brought a carrot cake (Darby’s favorite!) decorated specially by Darby’s neighbor. Darby would have loved to see everyone playing and laughing.           (more…)

SCPA members play with an altitude!

Our courts average about 9000 feet elevation, with beautiful views of the Gore Range and surrounding mountains.  Summit County, “Colorado’s Playground,” is ringed by the sharp-toothed Gore Range, rising to the northwest, and the Ten Mile Range, on the western edge of Breckenridge.  In the center of the bowl rest the blue waters of Dillon Reservoir, an artificial lake fed by the Blue River. Pickleball is a great way to meet new people and to nurture friendships, particularly here in Summit County.  So many full- and part-time residents of Summit County hail from elsewhere.  Many of us come to call (more…)
