Summit County’s third pickleball tournament, held July 15-16 at Rainbow Park, was bigger than ever and attracted great players and great press!
The event drew more than 200 participants, aged 10 to 80+. We had 111 doubles teams — a 26% increase from last year — across 10 doubles divisions, which we designed on the basis of gender — men’s, women’s and mixed — and USAPA skill ratings — beginner/novice (ratings 1.0 to 3.0), intermediate (3.5), and advanced (4.0 to 5.0), in addition to adding a Juniors bracket. Seventeen participants competed in the new singles division.
Competitors traveled from Grand Junction, Buena Vista, Castle Rock, Boulder, Denver, Kansas City, Houston and Boston to play in the tournament. The Summit Daily previewed the tournament in a July 6 article and covered the results in a July 22 article with photos by Nancy Lohrenz.
